Today’s Weather Forecast

Bitterly cold this afternoon with bright or sunny spells but also further snow showers in places. These will be hit and miss, with some areas likely to remain dry. A strong easterly wind.

Mainly dry tonight but remaining very cold with an even stronger easterly wind. However, occasional snow showers are possible in places, giving a further covering here and there.

Starting cold, very windy and cloudy, with an increasing threat of snow arriving from the south through the middle of the day, although this will be mostly light.

There is high confidence that Road Surface Temperatures will be below zero tonight, although they may behave erratically in any snow showers. Confidence in snow accumulations is lower.

 

2 to 5 day Forecast

Friday will be a cloudy and windy day with widespread snow in the morning. The afternoon should see the snow slowly clearing, and it will dry with clear spells during the evening and night. A spell of rain, sleet and hill snow is likely on Saturday, and Sunday will have sunny spells and showers.

 Following yesterday’s email, the predicted snow showers are still expected today, we experienced an earlier than forecast period of snowfall around 0500hrs this morning.

Our weather forecast provider suggests the following for today;

Cold today with spells of snow for a time this morning, which could be heavy. This snow will then clear to leave sunny spells but also some snow showers.

Very cold tonight with clear spells, but also the risk of some snow showers pushing in from the north-east. Moderate north-easterly winds.

Bitterly cold and turning windy on Wednesday with sunny spells, but also some snow showers pushing in from the east. Strengthening easterly winds.

Message From Flintshire

Streetscene and Transportation are make preparations to grit the highway network throughout the night, and into tomorrow, dependant on snowfall. However, due to freezing temperatures it is likely that our gritters will be operating 24/7 for the next few days.

 

Please note that the Met Office have issued a Yellow Warning of Snow & Ice, valid between 00:05 and 23:55 on Tuesday 27th February, and Between 12:00 and 23:55 on Thursday 1st March.

Our weather forecast provider suggests;

Today will be cold with a good deal of cloud around and the risk of a few snow showers pushing in from the east. However, there could be some sunny spells at times too.

Staying very cold tonight with clear spells, but also a few snow showers continuing to push in from the east. More frequent and prolonged snow showers are likely towards the end of the night. Tuesday will be a cold day with the snow showers or longer spells of snow continuing. These are likely to be frequent, heavy and prolonged through most of the day.

2 to 5 day forecast

On Wednesday, bitterly cold easterly winds will bring in snow showers. Remaining very cold on Thursday with a risk of the snow showers merging to give longer periods of snow. Overnight and through Friday there is the potential for the snow to become persistent and locally heavy bringing the risk of significant accumulations quite widely.

An email has been sent to all school transport operators providing the details above, so that they can make a decision on the delivery of transport services in line with contracts and policy. The Integrated Transportation Unit will update any schools of any interruption of the provision of transport as operators make us aware.
